CNC bending is a method that allows metal sheets to be bent at specific angles and shapes. This process is carried out using a machine called a press brake. The press brake places the metal sheet between an upper die (punch) and a lower die (matrix) and applies significant force to achieve the desired bending angle and shape.
Machine Capacity:
- Bending Length: Up to 3000mm
- ST-37 (Cold Rolled Steel, Black Sheet): Up to 20mm
- Stainless Steel: From 0.5mm to 15mm
- Aluminum Sheet: From 0.5mm to 15mm
- Wear-resistant Steel: Up to 20mm
Material Preparation:
The metal sheet is placed onto the press brake. Appropriate dies are selected based on the material thickness and desired bending angle.
Die Selection:
The upper die (punch) and lower die (matrix) are chosen and mounted onto the machine.
Programming:
In CNC-controlled press brakes, the bending process is programmed by the computer. Desired bending angles, bending lengths, and other parameters are input into the machine.
Bending Operation:
The machine starts bending the material with the specified force and speed. The upper die pushes the metal sheet towards the lower die to achieve the desired angle.
Inspection and Adjustment:
After the bending operation is completed, the part is inspected. If necessary, minor adjustments can be made to ensure the accuracy of the bend.
V Bending (V-Bend):
- The most common bending shape.
- The upper die (punch) and lower die (matrix) are V-shaped, and the material is bent according to this V shape.
- Typically used for bending at 90 degrees or smaller angles.
U Bending (U-Bend):
- Used to achieve a U-shaped bend.
- Involves a two-stage bending process, typically bending close to 180 degrees.
- Generally used to create U-shaped profiles.
Z Bending (Z-Bend):
- Used to achieve a Z-shaped bend.
- Bending is done in opposite directions at two different areas of the material.
- Usually performed in two stages.
Air Bending (Hafif Büküm):
- The material does not fully take the shape of the dies but is bent in the “air” between them.
- Requires less force and extends the life of the dies.
- Various bending angles can be achieved.
Bottoming (Tam Büküm):
- The material is bent to the exact shape of the dies.
- Provides precise bending angles and is highly accurate.
- The material is pushed all the way to the bottom of the dies.
Offset Bend (Ofset Büküm):
- Used to create a small offset in the material.
- Typically involves a short flat section between two bending points.
Edge Bending:
Used to increase the strength and decorate the edges of the part.
Folding and Flanging:
Used to remove burrs at the end of the material, increase strength, or join the two ends of the part together.
Curving Bending:
Used to increase the strength of parts, remove burrs, or enable hinge-like joining of two separate pieces.
Ribbing Bending:
Used to increase the strength of flat sheet metal and prevent deformation after shaping.
Embossing Bending:
Used for creating indentations or embossing in the material away from the edges.
High Precision:
CNC-controlled press brakes perform bending operations with high precision, resulting in consistent and accurate results.
Flexibility:
Capable of working with various material thicknesses and types. Various bending angles and shapes can be achieved.
Repeatability:
Can perform the same operation repeatedly with high accuracy, which provides a significant advantage in mass production.
Efficiency:
Operates much faster than manual methods, speeding up the production process.
Reduced Labor Costs:
Automated and CNC-controlled systems minimize human error and reduce operator intervention.
Durability:
Bended metal parts provide high strength and durability.
